However, we offer an automated installation script, as well as a well-maintained software updates system, for a few very popular Operating Systems. If you're just starting out with Zeltaa, and want to have an easy installation process and smoothly running system, we strongly recommend you choose from the following Grade A supported Operating Systems.
If in doubt about which of these systems to choose, we recommend the one you are most familiar with. If you have no familiarity with any listed OS, CentOS is the most popular OS for virtual hosting, and is thus the best-tested and can probably be expected to be the easiest to get help with.
Grade A systems have an automated installation script, a well-maintained software repository for updates, and are expected to work "out of the box" if you run the install script on a freshly installed system running one of these operating systems. We recommend the current stable release of one of these systems for most users. We do not support beta or pre-release versions of any OS.
• CentOS/RHEL/Scientific Linux 7 on x86_64
• CentOS 6 on i386 or x86_64
• RHEL 6 on i386 and x86_64
• Scientific Linux 6 on i386 and x86_64
• Debian 6, 7, and 8 on i386 or amd64
• Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, 12.04 LTS, and 14.04 on i386 or amd64
Grade B systems have one or more minor problems that make them less desirable for use with Zeltaa. We do support them, both in our automated installer, and via the software updates repository, but they will likely be less comfortable for long-term use on a server and we don't recommend them. Usually, the problems with these systems are due to short life-cycle or issues with package management.
• RHEL 5 on i386 and x86_64
• Amazon Linux 2012.03 on i386 and x86_64
• FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE and 8.0-RELEASE on all i386 and x86_64
• Solaris and OpenSolaris 10 and 11 on Sparc and x86
Grade N systems are systems that are not supported by our installer at all, but are expected to work well, if you are capable of performing all of the necessary configuration and installation steps to get the other necessary components working together. A manual installation will be required, but once installed, we will support these platforms just like any of our other grade platforms.
• Mac OS X
• Mandriva Linux
• Fedora Linux
• SuSE and OpenSuSE Linux
• Gentoo Linux
• Any Grade A or B system in versions not listed above
If it's not on the lists above, and it's a UNIX-based OS, Zeltaa can probably still work for you. Try installing Webmin first. If it works, then you're about halfway to confirming that Zeltaa will also work. Ask about it in the forums and we'll try to help with the rest. While Webmin provides limited support for Windows, Zeltaa does not work at all on Windows-based Operating Systems at this time, and it is not in our near-term plans to add support for Windows-based systems.
